Library Cards

Library cards are issued free to anyone who lives, works, pays taxes or attends school, K-12, in Westfield.

To get a card please bring in a current ID with your address, or an ID with a bill that has your address on it. If you work in town bring your ID and your latest pay check.

Patrons under eighteen may get a library card with a parent or legal guardian present.

Our policy maintains that you must have your library card to check out a book. Lost cards are $2.00 to replace.

M.U.R.A.L. Program

The Westfield Memorial Library participates in a reciprocal borrowing arrangement called M.U.R.A.L. (Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries).  M.U.R.A.L. permits any Westfield card holder in good standing to use his or her library card at nearly any other library in Union or Middlesex.  M.U.R.A.L. is a fantastic program that greatly expands the collections and library programs available to you.

To see where a particular book is available, please check JerseyCat. (the same website you would use for an ILL request).  Each library has its own rules for what sorts of materials can be borrowed.  We recommend that you call the library to be visited to make sure that the item is available for you and that you can borrow it.

If you do not reside in Westfield but you do live in a M.U.R.A.L. town, you can get a Westfield M.U.R.A.L. card if you present a valid library card from your home library and photo ID.  M.U.R.A.L. patrons can use many services here at the WML, but there are a few restrictions.  A full service Westfield card can be purchased for $90 a year.

Renewals

All 28-day materials may be renewed twice for an additional 14 days from the day the item is renewed.  You can renew items online by logging into your account with your library barcode, by calling the circ desk (908-789-4090 ex 4140), or in person.  Items on reserve cannot be renewed.  Library Elf (see below) can let you know when books are due back, but it cannot use it to renew anything.

Library Elf

Library Elf is a web-based service that helps you keep track of what items you have out, when they are due back, and what is overdue.

The Westfield Library subscribes to Library Elf's premium service so all library patrons can take advantage of this useful website.  The premium service can notify you by text message or email, whichever you prefer.

To take advantage of this service, go to Library Elf's Website.  The service requests an email address and password and later requires you to enter your full library code barcode number.   Leave the field for a PIN field blank.  Once you've signed up you can customize your account.

Library Elf is an independent website that is not affiliated with the Westfield Memorial Library.  It is designed to update you on your activity and due dates, but does not allow you to renew books or resolve any problems or questions about fees or items not returned.

Holds You can place twelve free holds per year on a card. On the thirteenth hold and above there is a $0.40 fee.
