Rockin' Roots, Global Reach--The roots of New Jersey's Music

Long before Bruce Springsteen earned his nickname as 'The Boss' and Jon Bon Jovi became the founder and frontman of one of the best-selling rock bands of all time, New Jersey provided inspiration for musicians writing about their longing, lust, and love.

This program, led by Rutgers University Librarian Jonathan Sauceda, will look at themes of songs that have been part of the music of New Jersey for decades. The music is about the Jersey Shore and iconic New Jersey towns from Hoboken to Hackensack. The songs describe trysts on the boardwalk, marital infidelity and unrequited love--themes often repeated in contemporary music.

Come and learn about New Jersey's musical roots in a different and fun way!

The Hudson Shakespeare Company: The Murder of Arden of Faversham

 A black comedy that is essentially 'Desperate Housewives' meets Shakespeare, Thomas Arden is a wealthy and ruthless landowner whose wife Alice is having and affair with a low-life called Mosby. She finds her marriage boring and Mosby exciting, so the two decide to kill Arden and take all of his money. They hire a couple of inept crooks who talk a big game, but can't seem to get the job done. Each scheme to kill Arden gets more over the top, and winds up with a surprise ending.
