Frequently Asked Questions
What is Museum Pass?
Museum Pass is a new program that lets Westfield card holders and Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library visit twenty area museums for free!
Who may borrow museum passes?
Westfield Library Cardholders, and members of the Friends of the Library who have a Westfield Library MURAL Card. Cardholders must be in good standing with the library with no outstanding fines or fees. MURAL cardholders who are not members of the Friends are not eligible.
Are there other rules about borrowing the passes?
Yes, there are several. Only one museum pass can be checked out per household. Once a museum pass has been checked out to a particular museum the household members must wait three months before taking out that same pass. These rules help everybody get a chance to visit the museums. Please read the additional rules posted further down the page.
How long may I keep a pass?
Four days.
Who may use the pass with me?
Every museum has different rules about its pass. Please check the guidelines for each specific pass.
How may I pick up and return a museum pass?
Museum passes are available on a first come first served basis. You cannot reserve a pass in any way. Passes are available at the Westfield Library. Please return the pass in person to the circulation desk.
What will it cost me?
It's free! (Unless it's returned late or lost)
What if I don't return a pass on time?
Failure to return the pass will result in a fine of $10.00 per day (with a maximum fine of $200.00). Failure to return the pass container will result in a fine of $5.00. Patrons will be charged for a new museum pass in the event that is lost.
Which museum passes are available?
Please see the list to your left.
Do all the passes work the same way?
Each museum has different guidelines for its pass. Please respect the guidelines. It is up to the patron to determine the museum's hours.
What are the American Children's Museum reciprocal network and the Art Museum reciprocal network?
The reciprocal networks allow you to use a museum pass at other institutions. For example, the Children's Museum of Manhattan pass and the Garden State Discovery Museum passes are valid for admission at all the institutions in the American Children's Museum reciprocal network. The New-York Historical Society participates in the Empire State Reciprocal Membership program, a museum consortium giving free admission to nearly twenty, mostly upstate, museums.
What is the North American Reciprocal Museums?
The North American Reciprocal Museums is another program that allows you to use a museum pass at another institution. NJ participants are the Battleship New Jersey, the Jersey City Museum, the Princeton University Museum and eleven more. There are over thirty participants in New York.
Who pays for the museum pass?
Museum passes have been made possible by a generous donation by the Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library.
Who are the Friends of the Library?
The Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library is a group of volunteers who serve and support the Westfield Memorial Library. Its purpose is to foster interest in the library, to make the public aware of the library's services and needs, and to help the library provide special programs for individuals or groups in the community.
